The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with state legislatures to advance internal security, improve governance and enhance service delivery across Nigeria.

The assurance was contained in a press statement issued by the Ministry of Interior and signed by Mrs. Mary Ali, ANIPR, Head of Press and Public Relations, following a courtesy visit by the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria to the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.

Receiving the delegation led by the Chairman of the Conference and Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, the minister commended the Conference for its commitment to nation-building and described state legislatures as indispensable partners in strengthening governance across the country.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo stressed that meaningful reforms in internal security and civic administration can only be achieved through effective cooperation between the Federal Government and sub-national institutions.

“Sustainable reforms in internal security and civic administration require strong synergy between federal and state institutions,” the minister said, assuring the delegation that its requests and proposals for collaboration would receive due consideration in line with existing government policies and national priorities.

He reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to implementing people-focused reforms aimed at enhancing national security, improving border management and strengthening the integrity of Nigeria’s internal governance systems.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Conference, Rt. Hon. Guwor, congratulated the minister on what he described as his reform-driven leadership, saying his performance reflects the confidence reposed in him by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He noted that the Conference of Speakers, as representatives of state legislatures closest to the grassroots, remains a critical partner in supporting policies and reforms that directly impact the lives of Nigerians.

“The Conference is committed to strengthening its relationship with the Ministry of Interior in areas that promote national cohesion, reinforce the country’s security architecture and improve efficient public service delivery,” Guwor said.

He further pledged the readiness of State Houses of Assembly across the country to provide the necessary legislative support for the successful implementation of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to sustained engagement, strategic cooperation and stronger institutional partnerships aimed at promoting effective governance, enhancing internal security and delivering improved services to Nigerians.
