The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Hon. Sunday Elechi Inyima, has summoned for questioning the contractor handling the Iziogo-Agbaja tunnel project over slow space of work and poor job execution.
Hon. Elechi ordered the summon on Tuesday during an intensive assessment of all ongoing projects embarked upon by the administration of His Excellency, Bldr. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, across Ebonyi State.
At the ongoing flyover construction site at Nwezenyi, the Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work. “The level of work here is commendable. This is in line with His Excellency’s vision of delivering lasting infrastructure for Ebonyi people,” he said.
However, the team expressed dissatisfaction with the progress at the Iziogo Agbaja tunnel project. Hon. Elechi summoned the contractor to the Ministry for explanations on the delay and poor workmanship.
The delegation also inspected the ongoing Onuenyim Bridge project. Speaking at the site, the Commissioner noted the strategic importance of the bridge.
“The bridge will be a direct connection with our Benue brothers and sisters. It will foster interstate relationships between Ebonyi and Benue and boost trade and movement,” he stated.
Other projects visited by the team include: ongoing construction of internal roads at Oferekpe, University of ICT, ongoing ultra-modern building construction at General Hospital, Oferekpe, ongoing 12km road at Iziogo and Ogbaga Randa Bridge.
Hon. Elechi reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring that all contractors deliver quality jobs in line with specifications and within the timelines set by the Nwifuru administration.
He warned that the Ministry will not hesitate to recommend sanctions for any contractor found wanting.
Hon. Elechi was accompanied by monitoring team which included the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Engr. Chukwuma Nwiboko, and the Special Assistant, Hon. Ajah Philemon, during statewide project site tour.
