Newly promoted Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Betty Otimenyin has attributed her rise in the Nigeria Police Force to dedication, professionalism, hard work, and the fear of God.
Speaking with Pan Afric Reporters shortly after her decoration ceremony in Abuja, AIG Otimenyin described her promotion as the culmination of years of committed service across different commands and formations in the country.
She said her policing career had been challenging but fulfilling, stressing that unwavering commitment to duty had remained her guiding principle.
“It’s been a tough journey so far, where you tread where others dare not tread. When you give your best in whatever you are doing, coupled with dedication, you will continue to grow,” she said.
The senior police officer highlighted her extensive operational and administrative experience, noting that she had served in several strategic positions across Nigeria.
According to her, she served as Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in different divisions, Area Commander in Eleme, Rivers State, and in Imo State, before becoming Commissioner of Police in Edo and Taraba states.
She also recalled being part of the pioneer team that established the Nigeria Police Force’s Zone 13 Command in Anambra State, where she served as Deputy Assistant Inspector-General (Administration).
“I have worked in various states, and that has made my face known. When you do your job with the fear of God, dedication and steadfastness, you will see yourself moving upward,” she added.
Asked to identify the greatest challenge she had encountered during her career, AIG Otimenyin acknowledged that policing comes with numerous challenges but declined to single out any specific experience.
“You meet so many challenges. The important thing is that we’ve been able to overcome them,” she said.
On expectations following her promotion, the newly decorated AIG pledged to remain committed to protecting lives and property, safeguarding human dignity, and promoting respect for human rights.
She assured Nigerians that she would continue to uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force while strengthening public confidence in the institution.
“We will continue to protect the environment, ensure that people are treated fairly, enforce human rights, and uphold the principle that ‘Police is your friend.’ It is workable and doable,” AIG Otimenyin stated.
