Tinubu Hails Umahi as Outstanding Minister, Commends Commitment to Delivering Lasting Road Infrastructure
President Tinubu praises Works Minister’s hands-on leadership, urges faster delivery of projects under Renewed Hope Agenda

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to the Minister of Works, Engineer David Umahi, on the occasion of his birthday, describing him as one of the administration’s most outstanding and hardworking ministers while applauding his unwavering commitment to delivering durable road and bridge infrastructure across Nigeria.
The President also urged the former Ebonyi State governor to sustain the momentum by accelerating the construction and rehabilitation of federal roads in line with the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda to improve the quality of life of Nigerians and stimulate economic growth.
The commendation was contained in a statement issued by the State House and signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, on July 25, 2026.
Congratulating the Minister on his birthday, President Tinubu reflected on Umahi’s record of public service, noting that before joining the Federal Executive Council as Minister of Works, he served as the Senator representing Ebonyi South Senatorial District after completing two successful terms as Governor of Ebonyi State between 2015 and 2023.
According to the President, Umahi distinguished himself during his tenure as governor through landmark infrastructure projects that transformed the state and has continued to demonstrate the same commitment at the national level.
President Tinubu praised the Minister’s passion for duty, patriotism and relentless supervision of ongoing federal road projects across the country, saying his leadership style has set him apart.
“Engineer Umahi has been one of my outstanding, hardworking ministers—passionate about the job and delivering durable roads and bridges that will last for about a century,” the President said.
He further commended the Minister’s hands-on approach to project execution, noting that he regularly visits construction sites instead of relying solely on reports from subordinates.
“As a minister, he does not just sit in his office or rely on reports from subordinates; he is constantly on the road, personally monitoring construction work nationwide to ensure compliance with specifications and approvals,” Tinubu added.
The President urged Umahi to intensify efforts in delivering critical road infrastructure that would improve connectivity, facilitate trade and commerce, and support national development.
He also celebrated the Minister alongside his family, praying for good health, renewed strength and continued wisdom as he serves the nation.
The President expressed confidence that Umahi’s dedication and commitment would continue to contribute significantly to the successful implementation of the Federal Government’s infrastructure development agenda under the Renewed Hope programme.
