IGP Disu Seeks Stronger Welfare for Police Personnel as DEPOWA Leadership Visits Force Headquarters

Police chief pledges enhanced healthcare, education, psychosocial support and economic empowerment for officers and their families
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to improving the welfare of police personnel and their families, pledging sustained investment in healthcare, education, psychosocial support and economic empowerment to boost officers’ morale and operational effectiveness.
The commitment was made when the President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs. Mernan Femi Oluyede, led a high-powered delegation of leaders of security agencies’ wives associations on a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The development was disclosed in a photo news statement issued by the Nigeria Police Force through the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, anipr, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police.
The DEPOWA delegation included the President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Chief Mrs. Mutiat Disu; the President of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), Mrs. Safiya Shuaibu; the President of the Naval Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA), Mrs. Aisha Idi Abbas; the President of the Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA), Mrs. Ngozi Aneke; and the Coordinator of the Defence Intelligence Agency Wives Association, Mrs. Jane Undiandeye.
During the meeting, discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and DEPOWA in advancing the association’s mandate of promoting the welfare and wellbeing of officers, personnel and their families.
The Inspector-General described DEPOWA as a critical support structure within Nigeria’s security architecture, acknowledging its role in complementing efforts to improve the quality of life of officers and their dependants.
“The Force remains committed to sustaining welfare initiatives, with emphasis on economic empowerment, psychosocial support, quality healthcare and education as means of boosting personnel morale and operational efficiency,” IGP Disu stated.
He stressed that investing in the welfare of security personnel remains essential to building a motivated, productive and professional police force capable of effectively discharging its constitutional responsibilities.
The Police chief also commended DEPOWA and other security agencies’ wives associations for their unwavering support to officers and their families, noting that their contributions have continued to strengthen the nation’s security institutions.
“The Nigeria Police Force reiterates its appreciation to DEPOWA and similar bodies for their unwavering support to officers and personnel across the security architecture,” the statement added.
The visit underscored the growing collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and welfare-focused organisations in enhancing the wellbeing of security personnel while supporting broader efforts to improve service delivery, professionalism and national security.
