NASENI Empowers Osun Youths, Women with Technical Skills, Equipment

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has empowered youths and women in Ile-Ife, Osun State, with advanced technical skills and work equipment under its Sustainable Empowerment Programme (NSEP).
The three-day training, held from August 7 to 9, 2026, at the NASENI Skills Acquisition Centre, Ile-Ife, covered Advanced Photography and Drone Operations, Shoemaking, CCTV and Inverter/Solar Installation, and Advanced Tailoring. Beneficiaries also received relevant equipment and accessories to help them establish or strengthen businesses.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman/CEO, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, represented by the Overseeing Officer, Prototype Engineering Development Institute (PEDI), Ilesha, Mr. Ahmed Olaoye Hamzat, said the programme was designed to move empowerment beyond certificates.
“At NASENI, we believe empowerment must go beyond certificates. It must provide people with practical skills, tools and opportunities that can translate into livelihoods, businesses and sustainable economic independence,” Halilu said.
He urged beneficiaries to regard the equipment as starter tools for enterprise, using their skills to provide services, create jobs and train others.
Halilu also commended the Chairman, House Committee on NASENI, Hon. Taofeek Abimbola Ajilesoro, for his partnership and support towards the programme, noting that such collaboration helps expand economic opportunities for youths and women.
Ajilesoro, represented by Mr. Felix Olayemi Oruma, commended NASENI for the initiative, describing practical skills and productive tools as a sustainable pathway to self-reliance and economic empowerment.
The Ile-Ife intervention forms part of NSEP’s broader drive to equip Nigerians with practical skills in renewable energy, ICT, STEM, agriculture and other engineering technologies to support entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods.
