By Pan Afric Reporters
The Nigeria Police Force, Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, preventing crime and strengthening community partnerships as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
The assurance was contained in an Independence Day message issued by the Zone 7 Police Headquarters and signed by ASP Halima Mohammed, ANIPR, Police Public Relations Officer, for the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 7, Abuja.
Zone 7, which has operational responsibility for the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State, said the anniversary provided an opportunity to renew its commitment to peace, security, justice and the collective responsibility of citizens to protect their communities.
The Command said Independence Day represented not only a celebration of Nigeria’s freedom but also a renewed call to duty for security agencies, particularly in the areas of protecting lives and property, preventing and detecting crime, maintaining law and order and safeguarding critical infrastructure.
According to the Zone, it will continue to deploy professional, intelligence-led and community-oriented policing strategies to address emerging security challenges and create a safe environment for citizens, residents and visitors across the two jurisdictions.
The Command also stressed the importance of public cooperation in strengthening security, urging Nigerians to remain vigilant, obey the law and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
“We urge Nigerians to make security a shared responsibility by remaining vigilant, respecting the law, rejecting misinformation and promptly reporting suspicious activities to the nearest Police Station,” the Zone said.
The Police further emphasised the importance of building public trust and maintaining strong relationships between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve, describing effective policing and responsible citizenship as essential components of a secure society.
The Command said the country’s security challenges could be better addressed through collective action involving citizens, communities and security agencies.
“A safer Nigeria begins with each of us. Together, through responsible citizenship, effective policing and strong community partnerships, we can build a peaceful and secure Nigeria for present and future generations,” Zone 7 said.
The Command felicitated with the Federal Government and Nigerians on the 66th Independence Anniversary and expressed its commitment to sustaining efforts toward safer communities across the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State.
Zone 7 also urged members of the public to make use of its official communication channels for security information and updates as part of efforts to strengthen engagement between the Police and the communities under its jurisdiction.
