The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Uchenna Igwe, has urged political appointees and community leaders to strengthen the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the grassroots to ensure the party’s victory in the 2027 general elections.

Igwe made the call on Wednesday in Abakaliki during a meeting with town union presidents, management committee members, ward councillors and the newly appointed 1,710 Executive Assistants to Governor Francis Nwifuru.

He urged the participants to mobilise voters across their respective communities for Governor Nwifuru and all other APC candidates contesting the presidential, senatorial, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly elections.

The commissioner warned against selective support for candidates, insisting that loyalty to the governor should translate into support for other candidates endorsed by the party.

“You cannot love His Excellency, the Governor, and dislike the people he has anointed to contest under our party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ebonyi State,” he said.

Igwe tasked the political appointees and community leaders with taking the message of unity to their wards and communities, stressing that the party needed a common front to achieve its electoral objectives.

He also urged them to encourage eligible voters to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), noting that grassroots mobilisation and active participation in the electoral process would be critical to the party’s success.

Highlighting the achievements of the Nwifuru administration, Igwe cited employment opportunities, the recruitment of teachers and health workers, scholarship programmes for Ebonyi indigenes, infrastructure development and the construction of schools.

He also praised the governor’s efforts to restore peace in communities affected by prolonged crises and resolve traditional leadership disputes in parts of the state.

The commissioner urged the participants to sustain their support for the administration, noting that a united political structure would help advance the government’s development agenda.

In his remarks, the coordinator of FON in Igbegu Ward III, Mbam Pius, assured the state government of their readiness to work collectively towards delivering all APC candidates in the 2027 elections.

Pius pledged that they would intensify voter mobilisation and strengthen the party’s grassroots structures ahead of the polls.

The meeting was attended by town union presidents, ward councillors, management committee members, Executive Assistants and other government representatives.
