FEC Approves ₦631.3bn for Nine Road Projects Nationwide — Umahi
By Pan Afric Reporters
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved ₦631.3 billion for nine road infrastructure projects across Nigeria, in a move aimed at improving connectivity, easing transportation challenges and stimulating economic growth.
The Federal Ministry of Works disclosed this in a statement signed by its Director of Information and Public Relations, Mohammed A. Ahmed, following the FEC meeting presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, announced the approvals while briefing State House correspondents after the meeting.
The projects cover strategic road corridors in several states, including Ekiti, Kogi and Kano, alongside interventions in Adamawa and Taraba states, remedial works on the East-West Road and rehabilitation of the Sokoto–Illela Road.
According to the ministry, the approvals reflect the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing critical infrastructure gaps and strengthening transportation networks under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Among the major projects is the 81.1-kilometre Ado–Ilawe–Ilumaba–Ikole Road in Ekiti State, expected to improve connectivity and boost commercial activities. The Council also approved the 95-kilometre Etuke–Okene–Ankpa–Otopa Road in Kogi State to strengthen regional links and support trade.
In Kano State, the Bichi Ring Road is expected to improve urban mobility and ease traffic congestion in the rapidly expanding metropolitan area. Other approved interventions include road projects in Adamawa and Taraba states, remedial works on the East-West Road and rehabilitation of the Sokoto–Illela Road.
The ministry said the investments would support agriculture, trade, tourism and industrial development by reducing transportation difficulties and improving access to markets and essential services.
It added that efficient road networks would help farmers move produce to markets faster, enable businesses to distribute goods more efficiently and improve access to healthcare and education.
Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Expressway Makes Progress
In a related development, Umahi disclosed that the first 118-kilometre section of the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Expressway had been completed, while construction on the remaining sections was nearing completion.
The completed sections, featuring both asphaltic and concrete pavements, are fitted with solar-powered streetlights to improve visibility and safety at night.
The ministry described the progress as a significant milestone on one of Nigeria’s major transportation corridors, which serves passenger traffic, commercial transportation and regional economic integration.
It stressed that the Federal Government’s infrastructure programme places emphasis on project execution, road quality and improved connectivity along major national routes.
The ministry further maintained that road investments were strategic economic assets capable of reducing transport costs, strengthening supply chains, attracting private-sector investment and creating employment opportunities.
It said the Federal Government remained committed to ensuring that approved projects deliver tangible benefits through effective implementation, quality assurance, transparency and value for money.
Umahi: Roads Central to Renewed Hope Agenda
The minister’s announcement reinforces the administration’s position that road infrastructure is central to economic growth, national integration and shared prosperity.
The ministry said it would continue to develop and maintain a robust national road network to facilitate commerce, improve livelihoods and support balanced development across the country.
It added that the success of the projects would depend on translating the approved funding into quality infrastructure that meets the needs of Nigerians.
