The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has sought increased government support for police infrastructure, housing, funding and personnel welfare, warning that sustained investment is critical to strengthening the Force’s operational capacity and internal security nationwide.
The position was contained in a press release issued on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, following Disu’s visit to the Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam.
During the meeting, Disu thanked the minister for his continued support and called for further interventions to address infrastructure and funding gaps, as well as pension and welfare concerns affecting serving and retired police personnel.
The IGP also briefed Gaidam on preparations for the 2027 general elections, including ongoing personnel training and measures to address the security needs of persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.
He emphasised that sustained institutional backing would strengthen the Police Force’s capacity to discharge its election-security responsibilities and protect all categories of voters.
Responding, Gaidam described the visit as timely and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the operational development and reform priorities of the Nigeria Police Force.
The minister commended the IGP’s efforts, stressing the importance of intelligence-led policing and highlighting government interventions aimed at improving police infrastructure and personnel welfare, particularly pension and insurance arrangements.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Anuma Ogbonnaya Nlia, welcomed the IGP and his delegation, assuring them of the Ministry’s continued administrative support.
Nlia said closer collaboration between the Ministry and the Police would help identify priority needs, improve service delivery and strengthen public confidence in the Force.
The Police said the engagement reaffirmed its commitment to working with the Ministry of Police Affairs to improve personnel welfare, strengthen operational capacity and safeguard lives and property across the country.
