DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: JANUARY 16 SUPREMACY OF INTEGRITY IN LIFE SCRIPTURE: 2 CORINTHIANS 8: 21; PROVERBS 15: 27; JOB 31: 1, 9 – 10
We might have seen from our discussions on various areas that disregarding integrity brings distortions to activities in life. The legal institutions, and the political organizations will be marred without it, economic activities can crumble if integrity is not honoured, and the religious sectors will lose its true existence amongst human beings; so also the social lives._ This is why this devotional talks on the supremacy of integrity. Human beings are created to socialize by interrelating with each other. Human beings are wired to help one another, share ideas and burdens together as well as to build up one another. But no one operating outside integrity can meet up with these natural responsibilities God placed on us. It is therefore, demanded on every human be to be trustworthy, descent in whatever is been done.
Apostle Paul, with his in-depth knowledge of law, social ethos of the Jews and Romans as well as Christians’ good ways of behaviours said human beings should aim at doing what is honourable not only in the Lord’s sights but in the sight of man (2 Corinthians 8: 21). Behaving morally and ethically with fellow humans is integrity in display, and has the potentiality of changing the world for good. Under this, it is advisable for all of us not to be greedy wanting to grab whatever one needed alone. The Bible says “Whoever is greedy for unjust gain troubles his own house” (Prov. 15: 27). If we all, by integrity stay away from unjust gains, our houses will be saved from many troubles. Uncountable heads have been lost through pursuing unjust gains._
Leaders of every quarter should respect integrity by refusing to use their positions to oppress the ordinary people. Politicians are to embrace free elections without riggings and snatching ballot boxes or vote buying. Indecency behaviours abuse integrity. Therefore, men and women, boys and girls dressing almost naked should know that the most valuable part of everyone as God desires is our private parts. The rich and wealthy who use their positions to defile little girls and boys as well as married women should copy integrity from Job who vowed not to look at young women lustfully and asked that other men should sleep with his wife in public if he had ever enticed his neighbours wives (Job 31: 1, 9 – 10). This devotional opines that present world needs integrity reawakening in every facets of life.
