DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONALS: MARCH 16 THE GOOD OLD DAYS (2) SCRIPTURE: Job 29: 13 – 17
As seen in yesterday’s devotional, it will be accepted that the world seems deteriorating in many ways as the world is taxing along. Against technological devices and civilized development of the modern days, there are evidences of deteriorating circumstances against the backdrops of good things human beings benefited from God in the old days. This can be seen in many African countries as well as the third world countries being ravaged by wars, poor conditions of living, and insensitivity of ruling governments to sufferings of people under them. The same mineral resources given to human beings, explored with crude implements and hard labours and sold to the publics very cheaply in the good old days have gone out of reach today. A man was heard telling people in Ikeja Mammy market, 1990, that he spent 10 shillings on his family three-bedroom house built years back in the 1960s.
Today as seen in many African countries, oil wells are in the hands of the rich and wealthy. Public companies are sold to the leaders by themselves. Electricity is getting out of reach of the poor people. In a country like Nigeria Kerosene (DPK, fuel (PMS) and gas (NGO) is being sold to poor people at exorbitant prices, while our political leaders are getting them all almost free of charge. All that is told the common people is cost of producing everything these days has gone higher greatly. In the “Good Old Days” the rich and wealthy are very much concerned with feeding and clothing the poor around them. These days, the poor and the needy are woefully neglected. They are only useful for thuggery, paid with meanest price. In the “Good Old Days” the men and women of affluence compete in providing social amenities to their communities. These days, same kinds of people corrupt the poor children by hacking them for more money.
In the “Good Old Days” no rich and wealth person used the wealth to destroy little girls. Job said he made a covenant not to look lustfully on a young woman for such action does not give him any reward from God (Job 31: 1). The claiming of innocence of Job was typical of every elder who stayed with his/her peoples in those days. Hear Job: “If I have been seduced by a woman, or if I have lusted for my neighbour’s wife, then let my wife serve another man; let other men sleep with her” (Job 31: 9-19 Africa Study Bible). Is there a country or a community to find a man of great repute who had not messed up women and girls because of their affluence? Can we found a resourceful man who will boast like Job for never had wicked mind ruining young girls and boys sexually? The beloved, let us do something quickly to return to the “Good Old Days.”
PRAYER:
FATHER GOD OF LOVE, visit your children on the earth again by redirecting our minds to doing the work of goodwill as the people of the “Good Old Days” did that you so blessed them with resources and peace in the name of Jesus Christ. Kindly renew the love of mankind on another mankind or LORD!
