Police Crack Down on Criminal Networks, Arrest Kidnap Kingpins, Recover Arms, Vehicles in Nationwide Operations

The Nigeria Police Force has recorded major breakthroughs in its fight against crime, arresting high-profile suspects, dismantling kidnapping and armed robbery syndicates, and recovering arms, ammunition, and stolen assets across multiple states in the first quarter of 2026.
The operations, executed by the Special Tactical Squad (STS) of the Force Intelligence Department, cut across Kaduna, Nasarawa, Plateau, Taraba, and the Federal Capital Territory, highlighting a renewed push toward intelligence-led policing and decisive law enforcement action.
According to a press briefing by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, the successes underscore the growing effectiveness of targeted police operations against organized criminal networks.
“These achievements reflect the continued commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to intelligence-led policing and decisive action against criminal elements,” he stated.
Among the major breakthroughs was the arrest of three notorious armed robbery suspects in Kaduna State, including a dismissed soldier identified as Abubakar Musa, who allegedly impersonated a serving military officer to evade arrest while carrying out criminal operations.
Police operatives recovered 10 stolen vehicles of various brands from the syndicate, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members.
In a separate operation, four suspected bandits were arrested in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, with security operatives recovering four AK-47 rifles, magazines, and dozens of rounds of live ammunition.
“A team of operatives acted on credible intelligence to intercept the suspects and recover dangerous weapons from circulation,” the police spokesman noted.
The STS also arrested two suspects linked to the kidnapping of a victim in Nasarawa State, where a ransom of ₦6 million was demanded. Investigations revealed that part of the ransom had been collected without securing the victim’s release, with efforts ongoing to locate the victim.
In another breakthrough, a suspected logistics provider for bandits operating in Plateau State was arrested in Abuja. The suspect reportedly confessed to aiding attacks and managing rustled livestock for criminal groups.
One of the most significant operations led to the arrest of six kidnapping suspects in Kaduna State, including an alleged kingpin linked to a notorious gang operating in Rijana Forest. The group was reportedly responsible for high-profile abductions, including that of a senior police officer and his son, with ransom payments running into tens of millions of naira.
Police confirmed that at least one victim had been rescued, while efforts are ongoing to secure the release of others.
In Taraba State, operatives recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition abandoned by fleeing bandits during a mop-up operation, while intelligence analysis is ongoing to track the suspects.
Meanwhile, in Nasarawa State, two suspects were arrested for vandalizing government infrastructure, with authorities recovering a truck loaded with railway tracks and sleepers valued at over ₦400 million, concealed under agricultural produce to evade detection.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, had earlier directed tactical units to intensify operations against criminal elements, particularly those involved in vandalism and organized crime.
Reaffirming the Force’s commitment, the police spokesman emphasized that operations would be sustained nationwide.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in sustaining this momentum. Investigations are ongoing, and efforts are being intensified to apprehend all fleeing suspects and bring them to justice,” he said.
He also called on members of the public to support security agencies with credible information.
“We urge citizens to continue to cooperate with the Police as we work collectively to enhance safety and security across the nation.”
The latest operations signal a coordinated nationwide effort by the police to disrupt criminal networks and strengthen internal security amid persistent threats across several regions.
