The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has reiterated his commitment to strengthening professionalism, public trust, and community-based policing across Nigeria after being honoured at a state banquet hosted in his honour in Lagos.

The colourful event, held at the Lagos State House, Marina, celebrated Disu’s appointment as the 23rd Indigenous and 33rd Inspector-General of Police, drawing top government officials, security stakeholders, and members of the public.

According to a statement issued by the Nigeria Police Force and signed by Anthony Okon Placid, Force Public Relations Officer, the banquet was organised by the Lagos State Government under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Speaking at the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the police chief as a distinguished officer whose career reflects discipline, service, and excellence, noting his impactful tenure as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos.

“This honour recognises a legacy of leadership and service shaped by Lagos and defined by commitment to duty,” the governor said.

In his response, Disu expressed appreciation to the government and people of Lagos, describing the occasion as a symbolic homecoming.

“This honour is deeply personal. Lagos shaped my career, and I remain committed to restoring trust, upholding professionalism, and strengthening partnerships in policing nationwide,” he stated.

The IGP also pledged to deepen collaboration between the police, the Lagos State Government, and critical stakeholders, including the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, to enhance security across the state and the country.

“Security is a shared responsibility. We must continue to work together—government, private sector, civil society, and citizens—to ensure safety and stability,” he added.

The event underscored the strong ties between Lagos State and the police leadership, highlighting a shared vision for effective law enforcement and national development.
