APA/AGATU: Ehigowoicho Declares ‘Rescue Mission’ as She Picks Nomination Forms
By Pan Afric Reporters
The political landscape of Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency is taking a leap in alignment with global agenda for gender inclusivity as a female aspirant for the House of Representatives seat, Ruth Ehigowoicho Ochefu picks form, declared “rescue mission ” for her people from years of political stagnation, insecurity, and underdevelopment, lack of access to quality healthcare and education as she officially joined the 2027 race.
Speaking shortly after obtaining her expression of interest and nomination forms, she said her decision to run was driven by frustration and plight of the people following unfulfilled political promises and a desire to effect real change.

“I am literally here on a rescue mission,” she said. “We’re tired of sitting on the sidelines, watching and expecting someone else to do the job. I decided that I can do it—I am capable of rescuing my people from the regular political status quo.”
The aspirant lamented what she described as a cycle of recycled campaign promises by politicians, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, healthcare, and education.
“When I was younger, we heard promises about roads, schools, hospitals, and so on. I have grown into a woman, and my people are still waiting for these same things,” she noted. “That made me ask myself—why not stand up and become the change we have all been expecting?”
She enjoined the constituents of Apah/Agatu Federal Constituency to reject vote-buying and empty rhetoric.
“They should stop falling for lies,” she said. “Every election cycle, the same promises are made, with peanuts given to the people, and then the politicians disappear—only to return four years later with the same script.”
Ehigowoicho also made a case for greater female representation in politics, arguing that a woman’s leadership could bring a new perspective to governance.
“The men have tried, and I’m not saying they have not done well,” she added. “But let us try a woman. Let us bring that feminine touch into representation and see how we can change things. That change will certainly come to stay.”
On her legislative agenda, the aspirant outlined a people-focused approach centered on accountability, oversight, and grassroots development. She emphasized the importance of engaging ministries and ensuring the execution of constituency projects.
“We will follow up with ministries, follow up on projects, and ensure that basic amenities are provided—roads, hospitals, primary healthcare centres, and education,” she explained.
She further highlighted unemployment and insecurity as critical issues requiring urgent intervention.
“There are many educated youths without jobs. We must push for employment opportunities and invest in skill acquisition programmes,” she said. “As for insecurity, it is a collective challenge. We must come together to find lasting solutions and safeguard our communities.”
Reiterating her commitment, she urged voters to remember her name as the election season gathers momentum.
“Remember that name—Ruth Ehigowoicho ,” she declared. “It is going to make history in Apah Agatu.”
