Zakari-Ola Joins Growing List of Kogi West Aspirants, Promises Infrastructure Focus

Ustaz Abubakar Zakari-Ola has picked forms for his intention to contest for the Kogi West Senatorial District seat, setting the stage for a potentially keenly contested primary.
In a chat with journalists shortly after the process at Treasure Suites, Abuja said he is fully committed to the race and has no plans to step down for any consensus arrangement.
He emphasized that he is ready to participate in the primaries and take on any opponents.
“I’ve come this far, and I’m prepared to face the primaries,” he said, dismissing speculation about withdrawing from the contest.
He explained that his campaign will focus strongly on infrastructure, particularly the Abuja–Kokoja road, which he described as being in a poor state and in urgent need of attention.
He added that addressing the road issue would be his first priority if elected.
“The Abuja–Kokoja road is a serious concern, and it will be the first matter I pursue in the Senate, by God’s grace,” he said.
Zakari noted that his decision to run is motivated by the need to tackle pressing challenges in his district, especially inadequate infrastructure affecting movement and economic growth.
On the method of selecting the party’s candidate, he said both direct primaries and consensus remain options, but stressed that consensus can only happen if all aspirants agree.
“Consensus cannot be imposed. It has to be accepted by everyone,” he said, reaffirming his determination to stay in the race.
He also expressed optimism about the process, hinting that there are signs the party may adopt direct primaries.
With his joining the race officially, the growing number of aspirants vying for the party’s senatorial ticket as political activities intensify ahead of the primaries.
