Police Academy Cadets Outshine Universities, Win Kano’s Prestigious 2026 Campus Debate Championship

Cadets of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, have emerged champions of the 2026 RIL Campus Crown Awards Debate Competition, defeating contestants from universities and other tertiary institutions across Kano State in a remarkable display of intellectual excellence, leadership, and public speaking prowess.

The achievement was announced in a statement issued by the Nigeria Police Force and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, psc (+), mnipr, mni, who disclosed that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, had congratulated the Academy for the outstanding feat.

The RIL Campus Crown Awards is a youth-focused initiative designed to provide students with opportunities to showcase their talents through debates, sports, leadership engagements, and other developmental activities aimed at promoting critical thinking, teamwork, and responsible citizenship.

In a fiercely contested debate featuring some of the brightest students from institutions across Kano State, the Police Academy cadets distinguished themselves through exceptional analytical reasoning, eloquence, confidence, and mastery of contemporary issues to clinch the coveted championship trophy.

Reacting to the victory, IGP Disu described the accomplishment as a reflection of the Academy’s commitment to academic excellence and leadership development, stressing that modern policing requires officers who possess both professional competence and intellectual capacity.

“This achievement is a testament to the effectiveness of the Academy’s academic and leadership development programmes. Intellectual excellence remains a critical component of modern policing,” the Inspector-General stated.

The police chief commended the victorious cadets for serving as worthy ambassadors of both the Academy and the Nigeria Police Force, urging them to sustain their culture of excellence, discipline, and professionalism.

The winning team was later received at the Academy by the Commandant, Assistant Inspector-General of Police Patrick A. Atayero, who praised the cadets for bringing honour and distinction to the institution.

According to Atayero, the victory demonstrates the Academy’s unwavering commitment to producing well-rounded police officers equipped with the knowledge, leadership qualities, and professional skills needed to effectively serve the nation.

“This victory reflects our commitment to producing officers who combine professional competence with intellectual capacity. We are proud of the cadets for this remarkable accomplishment,” he said.

The Commandant encouraged other cadets to strive for excellence in both academic and extracurricular activities, assuring them of the institution’s continued support in nurturing their talents and leadership potential.

He further reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the Academy’s vision of becoming a world-class institution dedicated to professional policing, leadership development, and academic excellence.

The Inspector-General also extended his congratulations to the Commandant, management, staff, and cadets of the Nigeria Police Academy, expressing confidence that the institution would continue to record greater successes in future competitions.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to strengthening educational and leadership development initiatives within its institutions as part of broader efforts to build a highly professional, knowledge-driven, and service-oriented police force capable of addressing contemporary security challenges.
