The Nigeria Police Force has successfully rescued a woman and her 12-year-old twin sons who were abducted in Ibadan, Oyo State, following a coordinated intelligence-led operation that led to a gun battle with suspected kidnappers and the recovery of firearms.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Nigeria Police Force and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, psc (+), mnipr, mni, on June 6, 2026.
According to the statement, the victims—Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her twin sons, Peter and Paul—were rescued unharmed during a tactical operation carried out by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) in Ibadan on Saturday evening.
The victims were reportedly kidnapped on June 3, 2026, while Mrs. Adegoke was driving her children to school at about 7:30 a.m.
Police authorities disclosed that the successful rescue followed days of intensive intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tactical tracking operations that enabled investigators to monitor the movements of the kidnappers and identify their location.
The operation culminated in a confrontation between the suspects and FID-IRT operatives at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
During the exchange, two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded while two rifles were recovered from the criminals.
The police confirmed that Mrs. Adegoke and her children were rescued without injuries and have since been placed in safe custody, where they are receiving medical attention and necessary support.
The Inspector-General of Police commended the officers involved in the operation, praising their courage, professionalism, and commitment to duty.
“Their resilience and commitment were instrumental in the safe rescue of the hostages,” the statement said.
The Force noted that security operatives have intensified operations in the area to apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate who escaped during the encounter.
Preliminary intelligence reports indicate that some of the fleeing suspects may have sustained gunshot wounds during the confrontation.
Police authorities assured that ongoing operations are focused on tracking, arresting, and prosecuting all individuals connected to the abduction.
The Force also expressed appreciation to members of the public for their cooperation, support, and patience throughout the rescue mission.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Nigeria Police Force stated that it would continue to deploy intelligence-driven strategies and operational resources to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes across the country.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to combating violent crime, protecting lives and property, and ensuring the safety of all citizens,” the statement added.
The successful operation adds to recent efforts by security agencies to tackle kidnapping and organized criminal activities, particularly in parts of the South-West and other regions of the country.
