The Ebonyi State Police Command has called on members of the public and residents of Nguzu Edda to ignore the viral reports circulating on social media, alleging that bandits and Fulani herdsmen attacked Nguzu Edda Community in Edda Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement issued on Monday in Abakaliki, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, said the Command acted swiftly after receiving information about a viral video in which a narrator claimed that armed bandits and herdsmen had taken over parts of the community.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Hope Urunwa Okafor, immediately directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Edda Division to verify the allegation.

She also ordered the deployment of tactical teams from the Command Headquarters to conduct a thorough assessment of the area.

The Command disclosed that security operatives carried out extensive search and combing operations in the affected bushes and surrounding locations identified in the video. However, no evidence of bandits, armed herdsmen, or any criminal encampment was discovered during the operation.

Following the investigation, the police stated categorically that there were no bandits or Fulani herdsmen lurking in Nguzu Edda Community, stressing that the report was fabricated and intended to create unnecessary panic among residents.

The Command urged members of the public and residents of Nguzu Edda to disregard the viral claims, warning that the spread of unverified information could undermine public peace and security. It described the report as the handiwork of mischief makers seeking to incite fear and disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the area.

Reassuring residents of the state’s safety, CP Okafor said adequate security measures have been put in place across Ebonyi State to protect lives and property.

She also called on citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command Control Room for immediate response.
