Security forces operating in Enugu State have uncovered a large cache of weapons and ammunition allegedly linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in a significant breakthrough aimed at dismantling criminal and terrorist networks in the South-East.

The operation, carried out by troops of the 82 Division Garrison under Sector 1 of Operation UDO KA in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), followed actionable intelligence obtained from previously arrested suspects. The discovery is being viewed as a major success in the ongoing Operation EASTERN SANITY II and efforts to consolidate peace and security across the region.

The development was disclosed in a media release issued by Operation UDO KA and signed by Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 82 Division Nigerian Army, on June 10, 2026.

According to the statement, security operatives launched a precision follow-up operation on June 9, 2026, in Gariki, Enugu South Local Government Area, where they uncovered a clandestine arms depot concealed inside a zinc structure disguised as a piggery.

The statement said the operation was intelligence-driven and stemmed from information gathered during investigations involving arrested members of IPOB and ESN.

During the raid, troops recovered a substantial quantity of weapons and ammunition, including General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), an RPG-7 launcher tube, AK-47 rifles, hand grenades, a tear-gas gun with cartridges, several AK-47 magazines, 270 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and 478 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.

Security authorities described the discovery as a significant disruption of armed networks operating in the region.

“This intelligence-driven operation underscores the effective interagency collaboration in the region, resulting in proactive measures to counter threats to national unity and public safety,” the statement noted.

The military further emphasized that the operation reflects the determination of Operation UDO KA to sustain offensive actions against criminal elements and violent groups threatening peace and stability in the South-East.

“Operation UDO KA remains unwavering in its commitment to sustaining offensive actions against criminal and terrorist networks that undermine peace in the region,” the statement added.

All recovered weapons, ammunition, and arrested suspects have been handed over to the DSS Enugu State Command for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity, the military urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information.

“The Operation UDO KA reaffirms its dedication to protecting citizens and preserving national sovereignty. The public is strongly encouraged to continue providing timely and credible information to security forces, thereby enhancing collective efforts to achieve lasting peace and security in the South-East,” the statement said.

The latest discovery comes amid intensified security operations across the South-East aimed at dismantling criminal hideouts, disrupting arms trafficking networks, and restoring lasting peace in the region.
