The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has appointed Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police Force, in a move aimed at strengthening the Force’s public communication and engagement strategy.

The appointment was announced in a press statement issued by the Nigeria Police Force on Thursday.

The statement, which was signed by the outgoing Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, said the appointment received the approval of the Inspector-General of Police, who expressed confidence in CSP Iniedu’s ability to lead the Force Public Relations Department and deepen public trust in the Police.

According to the statement, CSP Iniedu brings to the position a wealth of experience in public communication, intelligence management, operational policing, institutional accountability, and administration.

A native of Etinan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, the new police spokesperson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Pure Chemistry from the University of Uyo and has attended several professional courses covering investigative interviewing, crime scene management, strategic communication, intelligence analysis, and human rights-based policing.

Before his latest appointment, CSP Iniedu served as the Head of the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he coordinated public complaint management and spearheaded initiatives designed to enhance transparency, accountability, and public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.

The statement noted that he had previously served as Public Relations Officer of the Police College of Information Technology, Kobape, Ogun State, among several operational and administrative assignments across the country.

His extensive policing career has seen him occupy strategic positions including Operations Officer at Maisandari Division in Yobe State, Area Crime Officer at Umuahia Area Command in Abia State, Staff Officer at the IGP Secretariat, Force Headquarters, Second-in-Command of the 50 Police Mobile Force Squadron in Kubwa, and Officer-in-Charge of the Force Headquarters Situation Room.

According to the statement, his role at the Situation Room involved supervising the coordination and dissemination of crime and security information across the country.

Speaking on the appointment, the Inspector-General of Police expressed optimism that CSP Iniedu’s professional background and experience would contribute significantly to ongoing reforms within the Force.

“The Inspector-General of Police has expressed confidence in CSP Iniedu’s capacity to lead the Force Public Relations Department, noting that his experience and professional background will further enhance the Force’s strategic communication efforts and strengthen public engagement in support of ongoing policing reforms and operational successes,” the statement said.

The Police leadership also urged members of the public and media practitioners to engage with the new Force spokesperson through official communication channels provided by the Force.

The appointment takes immediate effect as CSP Iniedu assumes responsibility for managing the image and public communication of the Nigeria Police Force at a time when the institution continues to pursue reforms aimed at improving service delivery, accountability, and public trust.
