The Senate Minority Leader and Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District, Comrade Abba Moro, has strongly condemned the killing of the Benue State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Ardo Risku Muhammad, and his associate, Yakubu Isah, describing the attack as barbaric and calling for a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The position of the senator was contained in a statement issued by his office and signed by his Media Adviser, Emmanuel Eche’Ofun John.
According to the statement, Muhammad and Isah were reportedly ambushed and killed by armed men on Saturday while returning from a peace meeting in Benue State.
Reacting to the incident, Senator Moro described the attack as unacceptable, insisting that every Nigerian has a constitutional right to life regardless of ethnic, religious or social background.
“The attack is barbaric and unacceptable. All lives matter, and nobody has the moral and constitutional right to take the life of an innocent and armless person,” the senator said.
Moro urged security agencies to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the killings with a view to identifying, arresting and prosecuting those responsible.
“Security agents should carry out a thorough investigation with a view to getting the real perpetrators of the crime and bringing them to justice,” he stated.
The Senate Minority Leader also welcomed the condemnation of the killings by the Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, but maintained that more proactive security measures by the state government could have prevented the tragic incident.
“It is gratifying that the Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has found it expedient to condemn the killing of Ardo and Yakubu. However, if the governor had been proactively living up to his constitutional responsibility of protecting the lives and property of Benue people, this avoidable killing would have been averted,” Moro said.
The lawmaker extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and urged all stakeholders to unite in addressing the worsening security situation in Benue State.
He stressed that collective action and sustained efforts by government, security agencies and citizens remain critical to restoring peace and preventing further loss of innocent lives across the state.
