Osun 2026: APC Will Reclaim State, Deputy Gov Candidate Adereti Declares, Alleges Attacks on Supporters

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has expressed confidence in its chances of defeating the incumbent administration in Saturday’s governorship election, with its Deputy Governorship Candidate, Benjamin Kayode Adereti, declaring that the party is poised to “take over” the state.
Adereti made the declaration on Wednesday while addressing journalists at the APC State Secretariat in Osogbo, where he said the party had completed its mobilisation across the state and was prepared for the August 15, 2026 election.
“We are ready by the grace of God. The APC is taking over Osun State,” Adereti stated.
The APC deputy governorship candidate claimed that the electorate was dissatisfied with the performance of the present administration and had resolved to support the party’s governorship candidate, Asiwaju Nurudeen Bola Oyebamide (Ambo), at the polls.
He said the party’s grassroots structures had been activated across the state, expressing confidence that APC supporters would turn out in large numbers on election day.
Adereti Raises Alarm Over Alleged Attacks
Adereti also raised concerns over alleged attacks on APC members in Ilesa, claiming that the party had recorded two cases of killings in the area during the build-up to the election.
He alleged that the attacks were carried out by individuals he described as “thugs loyal to Governor Adeleke,” claiming that the incidents were intended to intimidate APC supporters and weaken the party’s support in the area.
“We have reported the case to the police for proper investigation,” he said.
The allegations could not be independently verified as of the time of filing this report. No evidence was provided by the APC deputy governorship candidate to independently establish the identities or political affiliations of the alleged perpetrators.
APC Candidate Faults State Government’s Performance
Turning to the performance of the state government, Adereti criticised the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, healthcare and education.
“Everything is poor — road infrastructure, healthcare, education — under the leadership of Governor Adeleke,” he alleged.
He maintained that what he described as public dissatisfaction with the administration would translate into votes for the APC during Saturday’s election.
“The people are ready to turn out en masse and vote for APC on August 15th,” Adereti said.
The Osun State Government had not responded to the allegations as of the time of filing this report.
With the election only days away, the competing claims by the APC and the ruling party have further intensified the political contest, while stakeholders continue to call for restraint, peaceful participation and adequate security to protect voters and other participants in the electoral process.
