2027: Tinubu Taps Umahi for Key APC Campaign Role, Tasks Minister with Infrastructure Mobilisation
By Pan Afric Reporters
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, as Deputy Director-General in charge of Infrastructure, Mobilisation and Sensitisation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Presidential Campaign Council.
The Federal Ministry of Works made this known in a press release signed by Mohammed A. Ahmed, Director, Information and Public Relations, dated August 22, 2026.
The appointment places Umahi at the centre of the APC’s campaign strategy ahead of the 2027 General Elections, with responsibility for communicating the infrastructure achievements of the Renewed Hope Administration while strengthening grassroots mobilisation and nationwide sensitisation.
According to the statement, Umahi is expected to deploy his experience as a former Deputy Governor, Governor, Senator and serving Minister, as well as his political networks, to advance the campaign’s engagement with Nigerians across the country.
The ministry said the former Ebonyi State governor’s record in infrastructure development and grassroots engagement would strengthen the campaign’s capacity to communicate the administration’s achievements and mobilise support across the federation.
“The appointment places Senator Engineer Umahi at the heart of the campaign’s strategic machinery, particularly in the critical areas of infrastructure advocacy, political mobilisation and nationwide sensitisation,” the statement said.
The APC Presidential Campaign Council will be headed by former Zamfara State Governor and serving Senator, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, who has been appointed Director-General of the campaign structure.
The council also comprises former governors, serving senators, ministers, party leaders and grassroots mobilisers, reflecting what the ministry described as President Tinubu’s effort to assemble a broad-based campaign team with national reach and political capacity.
The statement said the strategic roles assigned to Umahi and Yari were expected to facilitate effective coordination of the campaign, with Umahi focusing particularly on infrastructure advocacy, mobilisation and sensitisation.
It added that Umahi’s appointment was in recognition of his “outstanding leadership qualities, vast political experience, and proven capacity in infrastructure development and national mobilisation.”
The development comes as the APC intensifies preparations for the 2027 presidential election, with the ruling party expected to take its campaign message and record of the Tinubu administration’s policies and projects to voters across the country.
