DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONALS: OCTOBER 11 PARTNERING WITH EVIL (1) SCRIPTURE: EPHESSIANS 5: 6 – 7
Casual reading through Eph. 5: 6 – 7 appears to be addressing immoral activities which if engaged in will block mankind from going to heaven. A deeper thought on the passage seem to reveals a larger view of how Christians are to relate with deceivers in words. This passage is warning people against believing on deceitful word and doing what the deceivers say to them. The society we live in has been seeking like-minded companionship with their sins. The society has for long accepted attitudes contrary to the will of God. To achieve her aim, the society establishes its moral code of conducts and then intimidates people to conform to the conducts.
In conforming to conducts contrary to God’s will,, those conforming with the societal code of conducts are engaging in evil practices to some extent. Conforming to the society conducts means partnering with evil as most of what the society cherishes go with evil practices such as murdering fellow beings that has become ways of a valiant person. Immoral activities have become ways of satisfying personal joy. All acts of deceptions are now exceptional smartness. Deceiving people with deceptive words or promises has become a political qualification to win elections into political offices. But for the Christians, Apostle Paul ruled they are not to partake with any who deceives with words (Eph. 5: 7).
Today’s devotional is looking at “Partnering with Evil” as something Christians should avoid. The word “partnering” connotes pairing, working together, or associating with someone or some kind of relationships. By building this devotional on Eph. 5: 7, therefore, it will be correct to conclude that whoever hears deceitful words, believes the words and carries out what the words said is a partner of deception. When a deceptive word is evil and it is followed and carried out by someone, such a person has obviously partners with evil. As Christians, we must as much as possible refuse to be partakers of all acts and words of deceptions. Such action makes us partakers of evil.
PRAYER:
Holy Spirit, teach me to understand every word of deception, no matter how it is coded so as not to fall prey to the evil intents the words contain in Jesus name.
