DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: JUNE 3 GOD ADDED FIFTEEN YEARS TO KING HEZEKIAH (1) SCRIPTURE: 2 Kings 20: 1 – 6

Spread the love

We live in a world of mysteries always. Many people believed that a virtuous human ought to live free of hardships, sicknesses, diseases, misfortunes etc. This is the reason people question God when one who is judged to be morally and spiritually upright dies. Humanly speaking, everybody thinks one who is upright should be allowed to live very long to enjoy the fruits of his/her labours. Again, there are incidents of one who laboured seriously all through the life time but dies at the verge of reaping the seeds of the labours. People here again question the Maker of mankind over this. Truth is that, records of whatever one does on earth are ever stored in a place for the Day of Judgment. The story of King Hezekiah in the Bible is built around such mystery. He emerged a King, transformed his Kingdom for God in every good work. He came down on sickness. God sent a renowned Prophet to him to put his house in order. Meaning he should prepare to die of the illness. The Prophet went and related the message. King Hezekiah appealed to God and had his years added by fifteen years more.

This devotional is however, about why God added fifteen more years to King Hezekiah’s age. Christians more often, build their messages on the story concluding that King Hezekiah’s prayers were reasons God added more years to his years. Reasons why the King attracted God’s favour of fifteen more years full of extraordinarily blessings are scarcely supplied by preachers.

Many Christians too, use the portion of King Hezekiah’s prayers, asking God to elongate their years just like He did for King Hezekiah without studying what made the King’s prayer that answerable by God. *This devotional sought to bring to the readers, things King Hezekiah did which he recounted before God for God to add additional fifteen years to his years. When Prophet Isaiah came with the message of death to King Hezekiah from the Almighty God, the Prophet was confident that the message was irreversible since God is not a man that should lie (Num. 23: 19). King Hezekiah heard the Prophet very clearly. But he had the records of some of the good things he did faithfully to restore his people back to righteous living. He recounted them to God. God saw that those evidences produced by King Hezekiah were nothing but the truth. God changed the course of events.

As we get into this devotional more in series, questions will be asked here for the readers. Have you concluded that God does not reward good works? Have you been praying for additional years to your years during sickness? Are there records of your contributions in your church, of things you have done for the furtherance of the gospel? For any Christian to claim King Hezekiah’s portions, such individual must know what the King actually did and compares them with what such a person has done. Subsequent series of this devotional will help us see what King Hezekiah did.

PRAYER:

BLESSED FATHER, as go into, knowing things King Hezekiah did very accurately that made you added more years to his year; make me know what to do to attract such blessing in Jesus name.

POSITIVE DECLARATION:

I will not die but live till my uprightness and faithfulness to God will give me my blessings.
