DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONALS: OCTOBER 15 THE GAINS FROM BEING RIGHTEOUS (1) SCRIPTURE: GENESIS 15: 6; DEUTORONOMY 6: 25
In our devotionals of October 6 and 7, “working out your righteousness” was discussed. These devotionals demanded that Christians should do everything right and upright in their actions and thoughts according to the will of God. Some who read these devotionals tend to query why they must be asked to sow to themselves righteousness in the first place. Invariably, many people do not actually know that righteousness has lots of rewards or benefits in life. This series of the devotional is looking at what those sowing to themselves righteousness stand to gain from God. Righteousness simply means God-likeness. It involves the ability to think, talk and act in things that are right, regardless of who is involved or the condition attached to it.
It is established in keeping God’s laws or commandments faithfully. The question here will be whether there are things to gain from being good and doing things rightly so to keep pleasing God. There are actually more than thousand and one things to gain from being righteous. We will point out as many of them as can be contained in these devotionals.
(1). The first to mention is from Isaiah 3: 10 which is guaranteeing the total wellbeing of the child of God. The Bible says: “Tell the righteous it will be well with them, for they will enjoy the fruit of their deeds” (NIV). Righteousness as seen here grants us total wellbeing and making us to enjoy the fruits of our labour. It does not matter how bad the economy of the world will be, God will always make the righteous be fruitful financially and materially.
(2). Anyone who wants to become a carrier of God’s presence must need to be committed to a lifestyle of righteousness. King David had the privilege of being in God’s presence because he practices righteousness. He says: “Because I am righteous, I will see you. When I awake, I will see you face to face and be satisfied” (Psa. 17: 15 NIV. See also Prov. 2: 7).
(3). We have had stories of people who made it to the top in life but never sustained it. This means they could not be established (stand firm for a good duration of time). Anybody who wants to be supernaturally established should be able to walk righteously. The Bible says this: “In righteousness you will be established. Tyranny will be far from you; you will have nothing to fear. Terror will be far removed; it will not come near you” (Isa. 54: 14 NIV).
(4). Our present world has slipped into desiring financial greatness against good name. Every person wants to be very rich and wealthy no matter the cost. We should know that being righteous guaranteed divine prosperities. The Bible says: “The righteous will thrive like a green leaf” (Prov. 11: 28[b]. Green leaf symbolically means continuous living and flourishing. There will be more to be touched tomorrow.
PRAYER:
HOLY SPIRIT, send down the rain of righteousness upon me now in the name of Jesus. I want to experience these wonderful blessings of righteousness.
