DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONALS: OCTOBER 30 GODLY LEADERSHIP (1) SCRIPTURE: PROVERBS 11: 10; 29: 2
There is this one thing everyone on earth clamours to achieve and those who achieved it most often handle it wrongly. This is not money but the desire to rule over other fellow human beings. Everybody enjoys being a leader and struggles to become one. It is not a sin to aspire to be a leader because God Himself created hierarchies among human beings. God destined people to lead others in the homes, offices, religious circles, political circles and in other social spheres. By observation, there exist some leaderships been operated negatively in the sense that many leaders are operating leadership different from how God intends it to be. God intended that leaders should be leading in godly ways. This is a leadership that is in tune with God’s prescriptions. This is the focus of this devotional.
The world will always, as mentioned above, have leaders at homes, offices, economic sectors, political sectors, religious sectors and social sectors for effective managements. However, world leadership seems to be having fundamental problems as the leaders have never measure up competently in handling leadership as it ought to be. This has given rise to teaching people, training people in conferences, symposia and seminars so as to learn principles and methods of effective leadership.
Instead of producing effective leadership influences, the world is over time, recycling leaders who lead by force, coercing those under them within their own ways. Since the world has leaders leading outside God’s prescribed methods, the world lack in genuine God-sponsored leaders.
Leaders who would lead in God’s own ways must lead in righteousness. A leader who is not leading uprightly, transparent integrity and human focused passion is not a godly leader. We are told that all authority is established by God and so has to be submitted to (Rom. 13: 1); every leader is expected to lead in accordance with God’s plans. God’s planned leadership leads with righteous minds. Reason the Bible says “When the godly are in authority, the people rejoice. But when the wicked are in power, they groan (Proverbs 29: 2 Africa Study Bible). Leaders leading outside God’s prescribed methods bring groaning to their nations. We hear the Bible saying this: “The whole city celebrates when the godly succeeds; they shout for joy when the wicked die” (Prov. 11: 10 Africa Study Bible). We can now understand why the world is overwhelmed with crises and revolts as a result of bad or ungodly leadership spreading over the world of today.
PRAYER:
HOLY SPIRIT OF JEHOVAH, kindly breath upon leaders of this world wherever they are today with godly leadership Spirit so that the world rejoices once more in the name of Jesus Christ.
