The Executive Chairman of Agatu Local Government Council, Hon. Melvin James Ejeh, has sworn in all the recently appointed appointees of the council into various offices following his victory at the Benue State local government elections.
The appointees include his Chief of Staff, Mr Donald Ngbede, and three Special Advisers: Hon. Ewaoche Isah,Hon. Oyishoma Ochowechi John, and Hon. Enenche Omale, respectively.
The appointments of the council officials are aimed at strengthening the local government’s administrative capacity across various sectors.
At a ceremony held at Agatu Local Government Secretariat in Obagaji, on Thursday, December 5,Barr. Danjili Joshua, the sole judge of the upper area court, administered the oath of office to the appointees.
Delivering his address during the swearing-in ceremony, the council boss, Melvin James Ejeh urged the new officials to work tirelessly in implementing government’s policies and ensuring effective service delivery to the people of Agatu.
He said,”I charge you to be dedicated, transparent, and accountable in your respective roles
“My interest is Agatu, and that should be yours as well. Every citizen’s concern should be addressed within 24 hours.”
He called on the appointees to work assiduously to meet the expectations of the government and people of Agatu.
The Council Chairman also highlighted his administration’s progress in securing the local government,a key campaign promise, noting that many displaced communities have returned home and now live without fear of attacks.
Furthermore, Chairman Ejeh announced that all staff-related files and documents should be channeled through the Chief of Staff’s office.
“All communications regarding staff conduct must be routed through the Chief of Staff’s office for guidance, direction, and advice, ” he declared.
Additionally, CPL Ngbede Joshua Amodu (Rtd) was sworn in as Chief Security Officer, Amb. Obochi Solomon as Chief Press Secretary, Comr. Marvellous Adameh Sunday as Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Chairman on Media and Communication, and Comr. Isaac Jonah Ikwuma as Personal Assistant to the Executive Chairman on Domestic Affairs.
Chairman Ejeh according to a press release e-signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Chairman, Agatu Local Government, Amb. Obochi Solomon assigned the following portfolios to the newly inaugurated supervisors for effective governance and service delivery in Agatu Local Government: Hon. Ojema Paul, Works and Housing, Hon. Halidu Danjuma, Revenue, Prince Enenche Onah: Agriculture and Natural Resources, and Hon. Bashiru Jummai the Vice Chairman of Agatu local government
will take on an additional role as supervisor of Health and Human Services
In his remarks, Prince Enenche Onah, Supervisor Councilor for Agriculture and Natural Resources, and Amb. Obochi Solomon, Chief Press Secretary, assured Chairman Ejeh that they would work tirelessly to justify the confidence placed in them and serve Agatu Local Government with dedication and commitment.
Earlier, the Chairman received a delegation from the Agatu Education Department, led by Ameh Helen Atopke, Education Secretary of Agatu Local Government. The delegation commended the Chairman’s efforts since assuming office and highlighted the challenges facing the education sector.
In response, the Agatu Council Chairman, who also serves as Deputy Chairman of ALGON in Benue State, made a bold declaration. He stated that his administration prioritizes education as part of his Rescue Mission agenda, aiming to provide quality education to the sons and daughters of the local government in a conducive environment.
To boost the education sector, Ejeh revealed that he is in talks with authorities of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at both the federal and state levels to bring back corps members to perform their mandatory services to the nation in the council.
While expressing optimism that Agatu will have corps members next year, he explained that the contributions of the young graduates would help support the local government’s efforts and further enhance education system in Agatu.
