Ado Local Government Chairman Addresses Key Concerns Raised by Ukwonyo Community
Following a recent visit by the Ukwonyo Community to Ado Local Government Chairman Engr. Sunny Oche’s country home, the Chairman has issued a statement clarifying matters raised during the meeting. The visit, which aimed to foster unity and address community concerns, led to a productive dialogue regarding several pressing issues.
Acting Ward Head of Ukwonyo Ward, Chief George Isah (Redu II), presented several key concerns, including the actions of the mortuary attendant, Mr. Obinna, who faced accusations of wrongdoing; a request for monthly stipends for the Ukwonyo Council of Elders; the scheduling conflict between the Avarichi daily market and the new Eve market; and the ongoing Fulani herdsmen attacks around the Ajode farm settlement.
Engr. Oche according to o press statement e-sign by his Principal Private Secretary, Innocent Igelle addresses these issues directly and immediately. He highlighted the suspension of work at the Ukwonyo Primary Healthcare facility due to a lack of proper permits, emphasizing the importance of following due process for all government projects. He also clarified the situation concerning Mr. Obinna, stating that outstanding payments were owed to the Local Government and that an extended deadline had been given to resolve the financial obligations.
The Chairman expressed his support for the new Eve market, highlighting its potential to generate Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for the Local Government. He pledged significant financial support to the Ukwonyo Development Association (UkDA) to aid community development. Engr. Oche also affirmed his commitment to keeping the Avarichi daily market open, recognizing its importance to the local economy. He promised improvements to market facilities to enhance patronage and stressed the market’s vital role in supporting the community, particularly in light of planned infrastructure developments.
Regarding the Ukwonyo Council of Elders, Engr. Oche committed to providing stipends, funded directly by improved IGR from local markets. He further announced that rural infrastructure projects were included in the 2025 budget and reiterated his commitment to securing approval for the upgrade of Government College Utonkon to a tertiary institution.
The Chairman expressed his commitment to addressing the Fulani attacks, assuring the community that he is working closely with security agencies to ensure the safety and security of residents and their properties.
The meeting concluded with positive affirmations from UkDA’s National Vice President, Mr. Mike Ekwata, who expressed optimism regarding the Chairman’s commitment to fulfilling his promises.
