A former Chief Press Secretary to Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, Mr. John Mayaki, has commended the past administration for exposing its hypocrisy when they demanded that the Senator Monday Okpebholo’s administration failed to construct the Ramat Park flyover within 60 days in office.

Mayaki who was reacting to a publication in ThisDay and Vanguard newspapers, authored by the Special Adviser to Godwin Obaseki on Media, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, over his earlier article titled: “Okpebholo’s 60 days in office”, said, for Crusoe Osagie to have bemoaned governor Okpebholo for not delivering the Ramat Park flyover smacks of double-standard and simply shows a sign of refusal to take responsibility for the failings of the Obaseki led administration”.

Mayaki said, “my attention was drawn to a publication in ThisDay and Vangaurd newspapers, this morning against my article on Governor Okpebholo’s achievements in office under 60 days. It was titled: 60 days in office. This publication was authored by Crusoe Osagie, the spokesman of Governor Obaseki where he revealed his emptiness and ignorance when they demanded Governor Okpebholo to have delivered on the flyover project within 60 days whereas, they failed to deliver on the Gelegele/Benin Seaport project for 8 good years with billions of Naira spent on consultancy.

“Ex-Governor Obaseki failed to deliver on several projects but he is here today shifting blame and setting unrealistic and unreasonable benchmarks for his successor. What else is the description of bad leadership, if not this?

“Let me remind Obaseki that he spent 6 months organising workshops and retreat, conferences and seminars in a particular hotel in the GRA when he assumed office, in his bid to waste task payers money and forum-shopping for policy ideas, and a clear direction. The man who assumed office without any idea of what to do. And even at that, he failed successfully in his 8 years.

“And so, I won’t blame Crusoe Osagie for going to the newspapers to expose his ignorance and the failure of his paymaster, Godwin Obaseki, on issues around construction of flyover which he couldn’t achieve for 8 years in office. Although, I understand how wasteful and reckless the Obaseki’s administration was in terms of managment of resources, and careful planning.

“A leader who spent 8 years in office without achieving a major infrastructural feat now suddenly has clarity and urgency for development, only after leaving office. It’s like an ignoramus setting a bonfire of expectations for a successor, hoping he gets burned, while conveniently ignoring their own failure”.

Mayaki said, “I will address all the issues raised in Crusoe’s article in another piece. Am in the farm now. I need to concentrate”.
