52% of N4.2 Triilion Tinubu administration’s road projects focused on Northern Nigeria -Works Minister David Umahi Claims
The Bola Tinubu administration has revealed a high concentration of over half of its ongoing road construction projects in Northern Nigeria.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, revealed this during an inspection of a major section of the 1,068km Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway in Gulumbe, Kebbi State. The 258km, three-lane carriageway currently under development represents a critical phase of the ambitious highway project.
“When aggregated, the Northern zones account for 52% of the road projects currently ongoing across the country,” Umahi stated. “This is a true reflection of Mr. President’s stance that every region matters, and no part of the country should be left behind or shortchanged.”
The minister commended President Tinubu for his decisive leadership and the financial backing that has enabled the realization of massive infrastructure projects. According to him, the President’s vision is manifesting through four “legacy road projects” designed to connect and uplift all six geopolitical zones.
The Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway is just one piece of the administration’s sweeping infrastructure ambitions. Umahi also revisited the much-discussed Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, noting that its roots stretch back nearly 25 years to Tinubu’s tenure as governor of Lagos State.

“What we’re seeing now is the fulfillment of a long-held dream,” Umahi said, describing the highway as a landmark achievement poised to transform transportation and trade across the southern corridor.
The administration’s focus on road construction aligns with its eight-point Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes infrastructure as a cornerstone of national development. Umahi stressed that these projects are not just about roads. They represent crucial enablers of economic growth, fostering connectivity and opening up opportunities across the nation.
Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State expressed deep appreciation for the federal government’s commitment to his state’s development. He highlighted the transformative potential of the highway, emphasizing how improved infrastructure could drive investment and enhance the quality of life for citizens.
“The President’s support has been remarkable,” Idris said. “These projects are a testament to his dedication to ensuring that development reaches every corner of the country.”
Minister of State, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, echoed these sentiments, calling the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway “a promise kept” and insisting that the road must be completed on schedule.
As the administration undertakes these massive projects, the question of funding remains crucial. Minister of Budget and National Planning, Abubakar Bagudu, acknowledged the evolving global approach to infrastructure financing, pointing to President Tinubu’s diplomatic and economic partnerships as key enablers.
“The world is no longer building infrastructure solely through government funding,” Bagudu explained. “Innovative financing models and strategic relationships have made it easier for this administration to attract the necessary support for these massive endeavors.”
