ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! NORTHERNERS WILL NOT BE LAMBS TO THE SLAUGHTER – Bulama
Following the mob action in Uromi, Edo state, Dr. Bulama Bukarti has related via his X handle (Twitter). Saying
“The brutal massacre of innocent Northern travellers in Uromi is not just another unfortunate incident—it is part of a well-documented pattern of targeted killings against Northerners, especially Muslims, in parts of this country. How long will we continue watching our people butchered on the roads while the government and security agencies look the other way?”
He added that barbaric mob action is not an isolated attack but follows a long list of unpunished atrocities:
• In 2018, Major General Idris Alƙali was abducted and murdered in Jos, his body dumped in a shallow grave for no reason other than being a Muslim traveller.
• In 2021, over 20 Muslim travellers returning from an Islamic event in Bauchi were ambushed and slaughtered in Jos. Their killers are still walking free today.
•In 2021, Northern traders were ambushed and executed in Imo State, yet no arrests were made.
• In 2022, over 20 Fulani traders were brutally murdered in Anambra State, their bodies desecrated.
• In 2023, dozens of Northern travellers were lynched on highways in the South-East, and once again, the government did nothing.
Each time, our people are hunted down and executed, and each time, the government responds with the same meaningless press statements while the killers roam free. This is state-backed negligence, and we will no longer tolerate it!
He further makes demands s follow
OUR DEMANDS:
1. Immediate arrests and prosecution of those responsible for these murders. No delays, no excuses—swift, transparent, and decisive justice!
2. Deployment of heavily armed security forces to protect Northern travellers in high-risk areas. If the government refuses to act, Northerners will be forced to take peaceful actions to ensure our protection and justice, and we expect the government to act swiftly before tensions escalate further.
3. The creation of a special security task force dedicated to protecting Northerners who are repeatedly targeted in parts of southern Nigeria. While most past incidents didn’t happen under President Tinubu’s watch, treating the Uromi massacre with the usual nonchalance could dangerously undermine national unity and coexistence.
While we are determined to remain peaceful, the repeated and unaddressed killing of Northerners might lead some to resort to violent retaliation in the name of justice. If that happens, the blame will squarely rest on the perpetrators, the political leaders who have failed us, and the security forces who have neglected their duties.
We respect the sanctity of the lives of all Nigerians, and ours must be valued equally. The era of waiting for elusive justice is over.
