In the wake of unbearable threat to lives and properties in the country, Senator Abdul Ningi (Bauchi Central), Chairma Senate Committee on Sport has called for sincerity in the management of security in the country, querying the where about of the acquired ” Super Tucanos Jet” and why it has not be put into judicious use in the fight against insecurity. Lamented  that despite the financial burden the acquiring of the Super Tucanos jet caused the country with about a billion Naira  borrowed fund, the expected impact of the jet is not felt in the fight against insurgency.

Recall that over 500 lives according to statistics has been killed in the last few month across the country with Plateau, Benue, Borno having the highest number of casualties and billion worth of properties destroyed.

He recalled and informed New Media Forum after Tuesday 6th May, 2025 plenary in his office that during the screening of the current security chiefs, he personally asked about the Tucanos jet and the answer was that they brought it with some contract limitation that impaired on it’s  efficient and effective usage.

He questioned “If you know that they are limitations, why did you go there to buy knowing it can not be put to used, what is the purpose of buying it in the first place?”

“We have seen and heard what Tucanos jet can do and is doing  in Ukraine, Russia, and other part of the world but in Nigeria the reverse is the case.”

He further appealed  that Senate Committees on Army, Navy, Air-Force,Police and the Para-Military in charge of security should  report to the Senate Plenary their findings on security and it management.

“What stop the committees from bringing all the service chiefs together and interogate them and report back to the plenary. What has the committees found in the last one year through their oversight?,”

“To the best of my knowledge, we’ve not heard anything from the committees, so I challenge anyone to come forward and tell the world what the committees have said or have brought to the plenary.”

“The Senate should dig out what is the problem and let Nigerians know.”

Preferring solutions to the insecurity bedeviling the country, Ningi suggests that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a matter of urgency set up a Presidential Security Advisory Committee (PSAC) to be made up of former senior security personnel who distinguished themselves while in service to advice him how to tackle the  security challenges facing the country.

Said the likes of Gen. Victor Malu, Gen, Agwai, (IGP) Smith among other retired officers who have demonstrated  competencies, integrity and capacities in their days in service should be constituted on merit into a pool of security advisory committee without any prejudice to help tackle insecurity.

With the depth of insecurity across the country, the need for investigation into the country security architecture and it manager using the oversight function of the legislature as enshrined in the constitution can not be over emphasis.
