Senate Confirms Dr. Ukaor-Kalu as NASC Commissioner
The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the appointment of Hon. Dr. Nnanna Ukaor-Kalu as Commissioner representing the South East geopolitical zone in the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) following the adoption of a report by the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service.
Recall, Dr. Ukaor-Kalu was among twelve nominees presented to the Senate earlier but his nomination was stepped down following a petition submitted against him.
The petition according to the process and procedure of the Senate was subsequently referred to the Senate Committee on Ethics and Public Petitions for investigation and subsequent report back which marks and underscores the Hallow Chamber’s commitment to due process, fairness, and institutional integrity.
Presenting the report on Tuesday, during plenary, the Chairman of the Committee on Establishment and Public Service, Senator Oluwale Fanayi Cyril (Ekiti North), dismissed the petition the ground that it lacked merit and that the nominee had fulfilled all constitutional and professional requirements. Hence the confirmation of Dr. Ukaor-Kalu.
The Senate in its Committee of the Whole, considered the committee’s report clause by clause, thereafter approved his nomination and confirmation.
