The Anambra State Police Command has issued a stern warning against individuals and groups who intentionally spread false or exaggerated security information, vowing to expose and prosecute those behind such acts.
In an official statement released on Tuesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police expressed deep concern over a disturbing trend of misinformation being circulated through social media and other communication platforms. According to the Command, these misleading narratives are often designed to incite fear and discredit the efforts of security agencies in maintaining law and order across the state.
“These acts are not only malicious but also undermine ongoing security operations and public confidence in the ability of law enforcement agencies to maintain law and order,” the statement read.
The Command emphasized that such actions will no longer be tolerated and assured that any individual found spreading false or inciting content will be thoroughly investigated and exposed. The statement further warned that legal proceedings would follow, in line with the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act of 2015 and other applicable laws.
Residents were urged to desist from sharing unverified information and to support law enforcement efforts by reporting any suspicious activity through official police communication channels.
Reaffirming its commitment to safety, the Command stated it will continue to operate with transparency and professionalism to protect all residents of Anambra State.
“The Command remains steadfast in its duty to protect lives and property, and we call on the public to work with us, not against us,” SP Ikenga added.
