The Anambra State Police Command has made a major breakthrough in the chilling murder of a pregnant nurse whose mutilated body was discovered in a soakaway pit in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area. One female suspect, 24-year-old Somtochukwu Nwafor, was arrested on July 25, 2025, in connection with the crime.

According to police reports e-signed by the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect confessed during interrogation to being the girlfriend of the prime suspect, Chiemerie Obika Elobisi, who remains at large. She revealed that Elobisi had called her to clean up bloodstains after murdering the nurse and detailed how human body parts were sold to native doctors in the area.

The victim, a trained nurse, was reportedly lured to Elobisi’s house under the pretense of providing medical help before she was brutally killed and dismembered.

Acting on the suspect’s confession, operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) raided a shrine on July 29, belonging to one Nwafor Chibunna Ofornwatadile of Itima Amawa Village, Ogbunike. The raid led to the shocking discovery of suspected human parts wrapped in nylon bags.

Police have launched a manhunt for the fleeing Elobisi and other suspected collaborators believed to be involved in the ritual killing and organ trafficking network.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD, has strongly condemned the “inhumane” act, calling it “an affront to public morality and the sanctity of life.” He urged members of the public with useful information to come forward, assuring that informants’ identities would be strictly protected.

The case has sparked widespread outrage across Anambra State, with residents demanding swift justice and intensified action against ritual killings.
