Daily Hope Devotional: September 1 Topic: LUSTING AFTER EVIL THINGS. Scriptures: 1 Cor. 10: 6; Jam. 1:15.
One of the things the Bible warned us about from the life of the Israelites in the wilderness is that; we should not lust after evil things like they did. The Bible said; the Israelites began to crave for the food in Egypt, they started wailing and said, “if only we had meat to eat! We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no costs also the cucumbers, onions, melon, leeks, and garlic. But now we have lost our appetite; we never see anything but this manna! … Moses heard the people of every family wailing at the entrance to their tents. The Lord became exceedingly angry, and Moses was troubled” (Num. 11:.4.-.6).
How is your attitude in the wilderness? When you are enroute to where God wants you to be (even though He is with you through it all). How do you relate with God when troubles arise? Do you begin to wish you were back in the world and doing things others are doing? Are you quick to forget all that God has done for you? Psalm 106: 10 – 15. “so He rescued them from their enemies and redeemed them from their foes…yet how quickly they forget what He has done! So He gave them what they asked for, but He sent a plaque along with it.”
What the Israelites did was written for our learning. God was displeased with them and many of them died as a result. There is need for us to check ourselves in order to know if our lives are still in tune with God. What are you lusting after, even after you have become born again? What evil are you bowing to? The Bible says; “Abstain from all appearance of evil (1 Thess. 5:22). He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose, the son of man was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil “(1 Jn. 3:8).
Don’t love evil. Don’t love sin. Love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. God does not play games; don’t try playing games with Him. Many people claim to be Christians yet they feel alright with homosexuality. They are okay with other sexual sins and other vices. God is a God of mercy, grace and love, do not take His love for granted. You don’t have to foolishly die in your sins and end up in hell. You can be saved; you can be redeemed. Don’t harbor evil in your heart. Don’t desire to go back to the world. Your decision to follow after God is the best.Don’t turn back, else you will become a pillar of salt like Lot’s wife.
Prayer points:
• Oh Lord, my God, help me not to desire to go back to world again.
• The decision to follow you is the best I have made; remove far from me the temptations that will make me to backslide in Jesus Name.
Confession:
I will never, never go back to the world anymore.
