DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: OCTOBER 10 SPIRITUAL LIFE IN THE HOME (3) SCRIPTURE: PROVERBS 10: 23; 15: 5; 17: 10

Spread the love

Our yesterday devotional, possibly enabled us know how to spiritually handle people with the traces of “wise” or “simple” behaviours in our homes. Both of them need spiritual knowledge to handle them. The wise ones can be easily deceived with new discoveries as they keep looking for what will increase their learning and knowledge. The “simple” may pose stressful labour to parents as it takes longer time to mold them well in the Words of God. But in all, relying on the leading of the Holy Spirit is useful apparatus in discovering what to be done to infuse divine knowledge in them.

We will briefly look at the “fools” and the “scorners” in today’s devotional. The person referred to as “fool” in the Book of Proverbs is one who learned Biblical truth but either does not remember or does not want to obey it. It is really a great task to make the “fool” continue in faith. Amongst the many problems of the “fools”, we will see that the “fools” have no fear of God; they hate knowledge (Prov. 1: 7, 22). The “fool” enjoys doing wrong, always rebellious and difficult to be corrected (Prov. 10: 23; 15: 5; 17: 10). *Biblically, all people who do not believe that God exists are classified as “fools” because the Bible says “Only fools say in their hearts, that there is no God. They are corrupt and their actions are evil; -not one of them does good” (Psalm 14: 1 New Living Translation). In other to deal away with ungodly people in the homes, efforts to make all your households believers must be geared towards introducing everybody to the Holy Spirit of God.

The fourth behaviour here is the “Scorners”. The person referred to as “scorner” in the Bible is known for always getting angry at God and those who God could use to change their lives. This means, the scorners are always angry at anyone who attempts to talk to them about the gospel for repentance. Anyone in the home that suddenly developed hate on any member of the family who tried correcting him or her, or rebuked such for change of character is a scorner (Prov. 9: 7-8; 13: 1). A child with scornful spirit can easily leave home completely when rebuked or corrected. The evil spirits use scorners seriously in Christian homes so as to dent the images of the families. The Spirit of scorners makes people in the Christian home to so much hate the one exhibiting the scornful behaviour, to the extent of expelling the person out of the family.

Parents and matured Christians in Christian homes must be extraordinarily careful how to handle the “fools” and the “scorners”. At every time divine wisdom has to be sought from God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit on how to treat anyone with these traces in the Christian homes. This devotional advises every home to make the Holy Spirit her partner in building people’s lives at Christian homes.
