ANAMBRA POLICE RECEIVES NIGERIA BAR ASSOCIATION AWKA BRANCH AND HUMAN RIGHTS COMMITTEE OF THE ASSOCIATION

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc minps PhD today 14th October, 2025 received in audience members of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Awka Branch and the Human Rights Committee of the Association at the State Police Command Headquarters, Awka.

The visit according to a press release e-signed by the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga was part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration between the Police and the Bar towards promoting justice, protecting human rights, and deepening public confidence in the criminal justice system.

In his remarks, CP Orutugu appreciated the leadership of the NBA for their continuous partnership and advocacy in promoting the rule of law. He described the relationship between the Police and lawyers as a strategic alliance essential for ensuring justice delivery and protecting citizens’ rights. He further emphasized the Command’s commitment to maintaining professionalism, accountability and respect for human rights in all Police operations, especially in the oversight functions like cell visits and pro bono services to suspects to ensure that duties are done in accordance with the law.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the NBA, Awka Branch, likewise the Chairperson Of Committee on Human Rights commended the Police Command under CP Orutugu’s leadership for maintaining an open-door policy and improving Police-Citizen relations in the State. He reiterated the Association’s readiness to collaborate with the Police in training, sensitization and mediation on human rights issues.
