DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: OCTOBER 25 REWARD OF SAYING “YES LORD” (2) SCRIPTURE: GEN. 12: 1 – 5, 8 – 10
Yesterday’s devotional revealed that saying “Yes Lord” to God and, thereafter, declined from doing what God said should be done does not carry any reward. Reason? God’s prescribed reward is attached to every assignment given to human beings. Many who had said “Yes Lord” to God and did what He said went home with bountiful rewards, even to their generations upon generations. Today’s devotional brings forth Abraham and his wife Sarah. The “Yes Lord” of Abraham and Sarah is, considered so spectacular and worthy of mentioning, anywhere faith in God is to be looked into. God told Abraham to leave his kindred home to an unknown destination (“the land which I will show you”) and Abraham quickly agreed. Sarah his wife quickly agreed too to follow him.
We should know that Abraham was such a great person in his kindred home. He was rich and wealthy. He had fleets of cow, sheep, goats and household servants. One can say he was well established. Yet he just said “Yes Lord” and off he left. Sarah on her part did not put up resistance. She knew not exactly where the husband told her “let us start going.” As a wife to a great man in his locality, she herself is presumably rich and wealthy. Yet, she just agreed. As many times as Abraham moved, Sarah moved along with him as seen from the lead texts. As many times as Abraham said “Yes Lord” to God’s request, Sarah never objected. Many Bible teachers and preachers have said that Abraham did not tell Sarah about God’s request on Abraham to go and offer Isaac to him. But every married man will agree that Sarah might had likely discerned Abraham’s thoughts and movements. This is because every wife discerns the heart of the husband to certain accuracy. She would have prevailed on Abraham concerning offering Isaac to God if she never wanted.
God actually rewarded Abraham and Sarah for saying “Yes Lord” to Him. Abraham was abundantly and exceedingly blessed (Gen. 13: 2, 5-6; 24: 35; 20: 14 – 16). The reward of riches and wealth followed Abraham’s children too. Isaac was that rich and wealthy (Gen. 26: 12 – 13). Jacob was that wealthy and rich. See what he wanted to pacifies his brother Esau with (Gen. 32: 13 – 16). Even Ishmael was that exceedingly rich, wealthy and fruitful (Gen. 17: 20). Till date, those who gave positive “Yes Lord” are so rewarded with riches and wealth. There other rewards of saying “Yes Lord” when God commands that are benefitting than riches and wealth. Long life is one of them. Divine favour and honour form another reward. This devotional closes with asking somebody “How genuinely have you said Yes Lord” to God and “How faithfully you have carried out the “Yes Lord?” May you receive every grace of saying “yes Lord” SHALOM.
PRAYERS:
1. Pray and ask God for gift of faithfully carrying out His assignments handed over to you and the zeal to handle the assignments accurately.
2. Pray and ask God to have mercy on all Christians who have refused to carry out assignments given them after saying “Yes Lord” to Him in the name of Jesus Christ.
