The Ebonyi State Executive Council has approved the construction of 65 housing units of three-bedroom bungalows for widows across the state as part of the second phase of the state’s Widows Housing Scheme.
The approval, one of several far-reaching resolutions reached during the council meeting held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, is in line with the administration’s People’s Charter of Needs, which prioritizes welfare and community-based development.
According to the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Barr. Ikeuwa Omebeh, who briefed journalists after the meeting, the project will provide five housing units per local government area and will be executed under the Community Charter of Needs (CCD) initiative.
“The goal is to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged widows across our communities,” Omebeh said.
In the tertiary education sector, the council reviewed the implementation of scholarships awarded to 140 students at the Ebonyi State University of ICT, Oferekpe Agbaja Izzi.
The Ministry of Tertiary Education was directed to ensure that all benefiting local government areas, including the host community, are adequately represented.
EXCO also deliberated on the remodelling of the state library complex and directed that a Bill of Engineering Measurement and Evaluation (BEME) be presented at the next meeting for consideration.
Commissioner Omebeh reaffirmed the Nwifuru administration’s commitment to transparency, human-centered development, and inclusive governance.
“These decisions reflect the governor’s determination to translate the People’s Charter of Needs into practical benefits for Ebonyi citizens,” he said.
