DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: NOVEMBER 15 UNMERITED DIVINE COVERAGE (2) SCRIPTURE: MATTHEW 6: 25 – 34; Exod. 15: 26; Deut. 7: 15

We discussed how Jesus assured His hearers not to be too anxious of what life has for them in the future. He pointed them to the fact that God places greater values on human beings more than all other of His creatures. As learnt yesterday, God so much provided “Unmerited Divine Coverage” over human beings that if recognized, will stop us from being extraordinarily anxious over how to live without sicknesses and diseases. This devotional is looking at the general coverage God provided us human beings in times of pestilences afflicting many people. Despite the fact that sicknesses and diseases exist in the world, the ways God extends coverages over people could be amazing. The air, the water, surfaces of things we touch, our dresses, in fact everything around us are full of deadly disease germs. Nevertheless, many are still safe and alive.

If not by unmerited divine coverage, who will be alive sleeping and waking up daily under the waterborne diseases, airborne diseases as well as the millions of tropical diseases one faces especially in Africa. Medical peoples have the fearsome names, symptoms, and degrees of their weight of afflictions on mankind. Each time we inhale air, thousands of bacteria, germs, diseases and sicknesses get into our bodies. So many endemic, pandemic and contagious illnesses have been poured upon the earth, yet God has miraculously covered many from death. God is ever kind and merciful. Measles had assumed the deadliest disease that kills children. A searched source in 2018 says over 140,000 children died of measles. Whooping cough affects 24.1 million people worldwide every year resulting in 160,700 deaths (2018TrustSource). Same source said that over 1.4 billion people have tuberculosis worldwide. Out of this over 10 million have active tuberculosis. We are still being told that Covid-19 virus infection that has infected millions of people and had killed thousands or millions of people is on rampage presently. Miraculously, many are still divinely covered from their spreading.

Truth is that, there are uncountable viruses, diseases and sicknesses such as chickenpox, cholera, diarrhea, typhoid, hepatitis, Ebola, common cold, malaria etc., that are deadly, endemic as well as pandemic ravaging lives all the years. But for unmerited divine coverages, we would have all be dead now. The coverage is unmerited divine coverage because many are walking outside the commandments of God. He promised that He will not allow any of the sicknesses and diseases destroying the general public come near those who keep His commandments (Exod. 15: 26; Deut. 7: 15). Many who survived series of outbreak of sicknesses and diseases must know that it is God’s unmerited Coverage” that was made available to them. However, we are not to make light of this unmerited divine coverage. We must endeavour to be faithfully committed to doing the will of God for the unmerited divine coverage to be sustained. God has been faithful, ever faithful and remains faithful.

PRAYER:

HOLY AND FAITHFUL FATHER, I have heard of your “Unmerited Divine Coverage” today. I believe in what I have heard. I believe you are able to defend me against whatever sickness or disease that comes upon me. Grant me grace to trust and wait upon your grace to deliver me from afflictions in Jesus name.
