DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: DECEMBER 7 GOD’S MYSTERIOUS POWER IN PRAISE (2) SCRIPTURE: PSALM 8: 2; 22: 3
We heard from the Bible in our yesterday’s devotional how mystical power of God invaded the invaders of the people of Judah when King Jehoshaphat and his people sang and praised God. Same mysterious power was released to free Paul and Silas when they sang and praised God in Acts 16: 26. This mysterious power of God destroyed the prison building and cut into pieces the chains of all the prisoners. This laid credence to the scripture which says God “Inhabits the praise of His people” (Psa. 22: 3). One of the passages today says “Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies to silence the foes and the avenger” (Psa. 8: 2 NIV). As studied yesterday, many attested to the facts that God works mysteriously, miraculously and powerfully through praises rendered to His personality. Many had preached, telling their hearers to try praising God when it has shown that prayers never worked. And many who went into praising God mysteriously got divine intervention from Him. The focus of today’s devotional is to point out just two people who resorted to praising God and got their testimonies.
Let us start with the testimony of a young man, a believer in God who attended interview to work in ships. The story had it that he does not know the high personalities who recommend people to employers for employment. He did not attain higher schools like others who cued up for the employment. The que was very long, yet he endured until his turn came. On getting to the interviewer, a lady, the young man shouted loudly “praise the Lord.” The woman was not comfortable with the young man’s expression. But she collected the young man’s papers, did not check the credentials as she did to others but gave the young man the job. Another powerful testimony came from a Nigerian woman who identified herself simply as Mrs. Wale. She was a very good Christian, served God faithfully and married after some years of waiting for suitors. After the marriage she could not take in for years. At a time, her doctor diagnosed she had growth in her womb and that she would not take in again.
This discovery made her Christian husband backslide. The husband began to go around with other ladies and infected her with HIV/AIDS. She was sent parking. Depression came in. She was discovered having cancer by another doctor who told her she had few months to live. One day in a church, a preacher told people who have never had answers to their problems to try praise. She fasted for seven days while praising God only. Jesus visited her on the seventh day of the fasting and praising God and healed her. She went to the Doctor the following day, got tested and cancer gone completely. This miracle made the Doctor and others with the Doctor accepted Jesus Christ that very day. Today’s devotional, therefore, urges every Christian to believe in these testimonies and begin sincere and faithful praise dedicated to God all through the month of December. Harvests of miracles, signs and wonders are coming out. Enemies of Christians will be ambushed and routed out in Jesus name.
PRAYER:
ALMIGHTY GOD, make your praises, by Christians worldwide, move you against those nations killing and maiming people. Show them your mysterious power in praises by turning them to become Christians in Jesus name.
