Ebonyi State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Barr. Eric Kelechi Igwe has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the establishment of a new Nigerian Army Training Centre in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
Igwe, a former Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State (2015–2023), described the approval as a landmark decision that reflects the President’s unwavering commitment to equitable development, strengthened national security, and inclusivity across all regions of the country.
He expressed his heartfelt commendation to President Tinubu “for his visionary approval of the establishment of a new Army Training Centre in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Southeast Nigeria.”
According to him, “The creation of the training centre, which joins the ranks of existing depots in Kaduna and Osogbo, represents a significant step toward decentralising military training facilities and enhancing the operational readiness of the Nigerian Army.”
Igwe, who currently serves as a Board Member of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) in a press statement made available to Daily Independent, stated that the initiative would not only strengthen Nigeria’s defence capacity but also generate economic opportunities, improve infrastructure, and promote peace and stability in the Southeast region.
“The facility is set to train thousands of recruits, offering advanced infantry training and the use of modern military technologies. This strategic move aligns with your broader agenda to modernise Nigeria’s defence forces and effectively address emerging security challenges,” he said.
He further noted that the Southeast region had long sought greater inclusion in national defence projects, describing the approval as a historic milestone that underscores the President’s commitment to regional equity and national unity.
“I commend your administration for recognising the importance of this project and prioritising the welfare and security of all Nigerians,” Igwe added.
He therefore called on media platforms, Southeast stakeholders, and citizens to amplify the achievement and support the successful implementation of the initiative.
“This project will undoubtedly strengthen our nation’s security architecture and foster development in the Southeast. Thank you, Mr President, for your dedication to building a stronger, safer, and more united Nigeria,” he concluded.
