The Nigeria Police Force has taken a major step toward modernizing its operations and embracing clean energy with the rollout of a green mobility initiative aimed at improving efficiency, reducing costs, and aligning with global best practices.

The initiative was flagged off on April 21, 2026, with the official handover of three specialized buses powered by alternative energy solutions, marking the beginning of the Force’s transition to a more sustainable and technologically driven operational fleet.

According to a statement issued by the Nigeria Police Force and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, the vehicles were donated through a strategic partnership involving the Nigeria Police Trust Fund and the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles.

At the ceremony, key stakeholders described the donation as the first phase of a broader reform plan to overhaul police mobility nationwide through the adoption of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric vehicle technologies.

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, welcomed the initiative, describing it as both timely and strategic.

“The transition to CNG and electric vehicles is a strategic necessity that aligns the Nigeria Police Force with global best practices in logistics and resource management,” he said.

He assured that the newly acquired buses would be deployed to enhance personnel welfare and operational mobility across commands.

“These vehicles will significantly improve mobility and support our personnel in delivering effective policing services to the public,” the IGP added.

Officials from the partner organisations emphasized that beyond the initial donation, plans are underway to convert existing police vehicles to CNG, a move expected to drastically cut fuel costs and reduce environmental impact.

They also highlighted ongoing efforts to establish in-house conversion centres within the Force to ensure sustainability and technical independence.

The event, attended by senior officials including the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Mohammad Sheidu, and the CEO of the Presidential Initiative on CNG and Electric Vehicles, Ismail Ahmed, concluded with the formal handover of vehicle keys and inspection of the buses.

The development signals a growing commitment by the Nigeria Police Force to integrate innovation, sustainability, and cost-efficiency into its operations, while strengthening its capacity to respond to modern policing demands.
