Nigeria’s power transmission sector is set for a renewed push toward stability and efficiency as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, has pledged a results-driven second term focused on improving bulk electricity delivery nationwide.

Speaking at his first Town Hall Meeting with staff at the TCN Corporate Headquarters in Abuja following his reappointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Abdulaziz said his renewed mandate aligns with the administration’s reform agenda for the power sector.

According to a press statement issued by the Transmission Company of Nigeria and signed by Ndidi Mbah, General Manager, Public Affairs, the TCN boss reaffirmed his commitment to delivering measurable improvements in grid performance and national power supply.

“This reappointment is not just a continuation. It is a call to greater responsibility… to implement practical, measurable, and sustainable reforms that will significantly improve power delivery,” Abdulaziz stated.

He disclosed that Nigeria’s grid wheeling capacity has grown from about 5,000 megawatts in 2015 to over 8,700 megawatts, driven by sustained investments in transmission infrastructure, including transformers and high-voltage projects across the country.

“Infrastructure growth must now translate into what matters most to Nigerians—stable, reliable, and consistent bulk supply of electricity,” he added.

Abdulaziz highlighted major interventions under his leadership, including the installation of over 82 transformers within 23 months and the deployment of 300MVA units across key substations such as Akangba, Ikeja West, Osogbo, Jos, Gombe, and Katampe.

He also noted improvements in grid stability through enhanced maintenance practices and upgraded protection systems.

“Our protection systems have been strengthened, system disturbances have reduced, and operational coordination across regions has improved significantly,” he said.

The TCN boss credited the achievements to the dedication of staff and called for stronger collaboration with unions and employees to drive the next phase of growth.

Earlier, Executive Director, Human Resources and Corporate Services, Abiodun Afolabi Fadahunsi, described the Town Hall as a platform for transparency and inclusive engagement.

“Every employee has a crucial role to play in the company’s success, especially in a critical sector like power transmission,” she noted.

Also speaking, Executive Director, Transmission Service Provider, Olugbenga Ajiboye, urged staff commitment to achieving organisational goals, while Executive Director, Finance and Accounts, Chuks Ochije, assured that staff welfare would remain a priority.

The renewed leadership direction at TCN signals a continued drive toward strengthening Nigeria’s power infrastructure, with a focus on delivering reliable electricity to distribution companies and ultimately to millions of consumers nationwide.
