Izhia Stakeholders Fault Endorsement In Ohaukwu, Makes Case For Rotation
By Alex Odeh, Pan Afric Reporters
The people of Izhia in Ohaukwu local government area of Ebonyi State, have faulted the Senator Anthony Agbo-led endorsement of aspirants for the 2027 general election, insisting on power rotation between Izhia, Ngbo and Effium.
They therefore called on the governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru as an advocate of justice to look into the anomalies, and do justice to it.
Reading a resolution on behalf of Izhia stakeholders shortly after a meeting held at Ezzangbo on Monday, Engineer Emmanuel Obo Ezeugo, President of Umugara Autonomous Community described as kangaroo, the purported endorsement of aspirants at Senator Anthony Agbo residence in Ngbo on the 20th April 2026.
He further maintained that the stakeholders of Izhia strongly condemned the purported endorsement of candidates for the 2027 general election as that does not represent the true position of the general interest of Ohaukwu people.
He said, “The good people of Izhia clan, being the oldest zone in Ohaukwu local government area, vehemently condemned the purported endorsement of candidates for the 2027 general election as that does not represent the true position of the general interest of Ohaukwu people.
“That never in the history of Ohaukwu was any zone amongst the three zones of Ohaukwu; Izhia, Ngbo and Effium, excluded in the sharing formula of the elective positions in Ohaukwu.
It has always been rotational and not one zone taking every position at a time”, he explained.
He added that in the past, there was a zoning pattern for elective positions in Ohaukwu local government area.
“For the council chairmanship position, it has been rotational from Izhia to Ngbo and Ngbo to Effium and not one zone taking all the positions. This spirit was what guided our governor, His Excellency, in zoning the incoming Ohaukwu council chairman to Ngbo.
He took time to explain how the position of Ohaukwu South Constituency had been rotated between Izhia and Ngbo, lamenting that the people of Ngbo wants to short-change the Izhia people.
He said, “For the position of houses of assembly, Izhia and Ngbo share turns in the rotation for Ohaukwu south constituency, eight years each, and previously it has followed thus.
“Chief Solomon Onwe went for eight years from 1999 to 2007 for Ngbo zone. It came to Izhia for eight years from 2007 to 2015. Honourable Kennedy Ogba and Mabel Aleke, four years each respectively.
“It went back to Ngbo and Honourable Christian Oselebe served for four years from 2015 to 2019. Right Honourable Chinedu Onah took over and ought to have served one tenure, four years, but he is completing solid eight years now, thereby short-changing Izhia by four years.
He stressed that for equity, good conscience and natural justice, the house of assembly of Ohaukwu South Constituency ought to come from Izhia.
“Currently, Ngbo has the incoming chairman of the local government area and in the recent conducted kangaroo endorsement, zoning Ngbo stakeholders in disguise representing Ohaukwu zoned all the remaining elected position to the same Ngbo, includingĺ Ohaukwu South state constituency, Ohaukwu North state constituency, and the house of representatives for Ebonyi/Ohaukwu federal constituency”, he explained.
Engineer Emmanuel Obo Ezeugo recalled His Excellency’s statement on 29th December, 2025.
“We record that on the 29th December 2025, we the Izhia people agitated for the chairmanship position, but it was zoned to Ngbo and His Excellency before the Ohaukwu people stated that when the general election of 2027 comes that Ngbo people should be ready and prepare to make huge sacrifice by relinquishing some positions to the Izhia people.
“Again His Excellency advised that no stakeholder should endorse or anoint any candidate, but some acclaimed group of people disguising as Ohaukwu stakeholders gathered and endorsed candidates as against the general will of Ohio people, excluding Izhia, the most integral part of Ohaukwu, thereby disobeying his directives.
‘In light of the above, we the peaceful people of Izhia humbly call on the governor of Ebonyi state under the leadership of His Excellency, Right Honourable Builder Francis an advocate and product of equity to look into this abnormality and do justice to it”, he said.
The signatories to the resolutions included but not limited to Engineer Emmanuel Obo, the Town Union President of Unuagara , Mr. Chidi Onwe, Izhia Youth President, Professor Ekuma Agbo, Town union President of Amechi, Sir Chinedu James Ogbu, the leader in Izhia among others.
