The Ministry of Interior has intensified efforts to reform government operations, declaring innovation as a key driver for improving efficiency, service delivery, and cost-effectiveness across its agencies.

The call was made during a training programme organised for agencies under the ministry, where officials emphasised the need to rethink traditional processes and adopt modern, solution-driven approaches in public administration.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Interior and signed by Mary Ali, Head of Press and Public Relations, the Director of Reform Coordination and Service Improvement, Gloria-Vera C. Azoro, described innovation as a practical tool for driving measurable change.

“Innovation involves improving existing processes or introducing new ideas that make services more efficient, timely, and cost-effective,” she said.

Azoro noted that the training was designed to equip officers with the skills and mindset required to embrace reform, stressing the importance of critical thinking and openness to new ideas in achieving institutional transformation.

She urged agencies under the ministry to establish Innovation Units and Committees to institutionalise reform efforts and encourage participation across departments.

“This will help embed a culture of innovation across the system and generate practical solutions to institutional challenges,” she added.

The director also advised participants to carry their management along in reform initiatives and introduce regular innovation-driven activities such as quarterly idea challenges.

Earlier, a former Director of Civil Service Transformation at the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, John Magbadelo, highlighted the progress made in digitising public service operations.

“The Federal Public Service has shown responsiveness to transformation, moving from analogue systems to digital processes,” he said.

In another presentation, Henry Nwaedo of the Service Innovation Department underscored the strategic role of innovation units in driving governance reforms.

“Improved governance and service delivery can be achieved by fostering a culture of innovation and supporting policy implementation,” he noted.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to building a responsive and efficient public service through sustained innovation and reform initiatives.
