The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has intensified efforts to reposition the Nigeria Police Force, engaging international development partners and diplomatic stakeholders to secure strategic support for ongoing reforms aimed at modernising policing in the country.
This was disclosed in a press release issued from the Force Headquarters, Abuja, and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid.

The high-level stakeholders’ dialogue, held on May 12, 2026, brought together key partners including the United Nations Development Programme, UN Women, the British High Commission, and representatives from the governments of Germany, Spain, and Slovakia, alongside other institutional actors committed to police reform in Nigeria.
Speaking at the engagement, IGP Disu reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to building a modern, professional, and accountable policing system anchored on the rule of law and respect for human rights.
“The Nigeria Police Force is committed to becoming a modern, intelligence-led, and citizen-focused institution capable of effectively responding to contemporary security challenges,” he said.
He explained that the reform agenda is designed to transform the Force into a technology-driven institution that prioritises community partnership and public trust.
In his remarks, the Head of the Police Reform Secretariat, Olu Ogunsakin, outlined key pillars of the reform programme, including legal and policy reforms, election security management, leadership development, and enhanced oversight systems.

He emphasised the critical role of global partnerships in achieving sustainable reforms.
“International collaboration is essential in strengthening institutional capacity and ensuring that policing reforms in Nigeria are sustainable and aligned with global best practices,” Ogunsakin stated.
The dialogue, organised in collaboration with the Police Reform Secretariat, also featured participation from the National Institute for Police Studies and other development organisations, underscoring a broad-based commitment to reforming the Nigeria Police Force.
Reiterating the Force’s position, the IGP assured stakeholders of continued transparency, professionalism, and discipline in implementing reforms that reflect both international standards and Nigeria’s unique security realities.
He added that the Nigeria Police Force remains focused on delivering measurable improvements that will enhance public confidence and strengthen national security.
